All Rights Reserved This is quite a manufacturing era. The talk today continues to evolve around Additive Manufacturing options in 3D printing and trying to figure out exactly what Industrial 4.0 means. Cybersecurity has taken center stage along with smart factory technologies complete with training via virtual reality. While all of these emerging technologies are important, we believe that today’s operators must be well versed in the basic fundamentals of manufacturing. Hands-on experience—on the foundry factory floor cannot be under estimated. While not as sexy as 3D printing, understanding the basics of material handling, testing, molding, melting, finishing, inspection and quality will serve any operator well before moving to advanced processes. Our line-up features important fundamentals such as understanding the phenolic urethane cold box (PUCB) process and how to select an aluminum melting furnace. The basics in pneumatic conveying as well as ductile iron ladles are also covered in this issue. We hope you will save these articles as references to refer back to, for years to come. I would like to thank all of our contributors in this issue and their efforts. As always, thank you for reading our 12th issue of Simple Solutions That Work! A lot has changed since we started working on this issue. COVID-19 has changed the way we work, communicate, and install equipment. As we move forward, one thing is for certain; the American spirit continues to show its colors in many ways, through the manufacturing of ventilators, PPE, and safe environments for our elderly. Tough times don’t last…Tough people do. Stay safe. Jack Palmer President, Palmer Manufacturing & Supply, Inc. jack@ palmer mfg.com WELCOME TO OUR “BACK TO BASICS” ISSUE
